67 miles in Kentucky
140 miles in Ohio
On Day 3 we got up early so we could be on the road by 8 a.m. We finished Kentucky and entered Ohio, passing through Cincinnati. We reached our destination, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, by 11:30 a.m.
We ended up in the North American section first. The kids all enjoyed the petting zoo, and especially liked brushing the goats.
We saw a large brown bear who was frolicking in the water. It was pretty amusing watching him float and play. We also found the polar bears.
The kids got up close to this snuggly bear.
Then we rode the train to give our feet a rest.
We saw some of the animals in the Shores & Aquarium area (as Floridians, we felt it was okay to skip the alligators and manatees). We saw the Asian animals, and some of the Australian animals.
By this point everyone was pretty hot and tired of walking (Zach had a blister). We decided to splurge and get the pass that would give access to unlimited rides. We rode the Pirate Island boat (past the Orangutans) and the Carousel.
Then we headed to Jungle Jack's Landing where the majority of the rides were. It wasn't too crowded, and the ride waiting time was short. We did 9-10 rides, with Jared and I taking turns staying with Adam.

Everyone's favorite ride was Jungle River Falls. It was a splashy log ride guaranteed to get you wet (similar to Splash Mountain). Pretty fun, and the wetness felt good on the very hot day!
We dragged the children out of the park after 6 p.m., and picked up a quick dinner from Taco Bell on the way to our hotel in Columbus (just 20 minutes from the zoo).
This hotel was our nicest yet, with two rooms and a small kitchen. After the busy day, everyone went to bed easily and was asleep by 9 p.m.
