Eno River

We are enjoying exploring what Durham has to offer. Last Saturday we went as a family to the Eno River State Park. We hiked through the forest for a bit, crossed a cool suspension bridge, and then played in the river: climbing over rocks, wading, skipping (and mostly throwing) rocks, and catching tadpoles and frogs.

Bennett Place

Our new home is just a minute away from a significant site in the history of North Carolina, and in the history of the Civil War. Bennett Place is a farmhouse where General Johnston (Confederate Army) and General Sherman (Union Army) met in April of 1865 and signed surrender papers for the Southern armies in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida. It was the largest troop surrender of the American Civil War.

4th of July at Little River Regional Park

This year we celebrated the 4th of July by going exploring. We visited Little River Regional Park and went for a family hike. Unfortunately, we hadn't really planned for a long walk, so we cut the hike short and didn't actually reach the river. We had a picnic lunch and then enjoyed the little butterfly garden.

In the evening we were invited to a BBQ at a ward member's home. There were four families there (including ours). We had a great time getting to know new friends, the kids had fun running around with all of the kids, there was a piñata and plenty of sparklers and fireworks. We are really like our new ward and are thankful for our new friends.

Things are changing!

In June we emptied out our little 2 bedroom town home, loaded up a 23ft truck (with help from neighbors, the Elders Quorum, and the missionaries-not to mention all the help from my sweet friends who watched the children so I could clean and pack), drove over 500 miles through Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, and after a long day we arrived at our new home in Durham.
