We love hearing Lily laugh. She has such a lovely lilting laugh. :) Anwyn is the best at getting her to laugh but I've been doing pretty well recently. The other day I had iTunes on random and a Phil Collins song came on (Another Day in Paradise). I started singing along while holding Lily and dancing. She just laughed and laughed. I guess my Phil Collins impression was a hit. ;-)
Tonight I was playing with Lily, taking her hand putting it to my nose saying, "Dada," then putting it to her mouth saying, "Lily." I kept this up for quite a while as she kept laughing.
Lily is such a wonderful little girl. She's very happy and content.

Leaping Lizard!
This morning before church I was looking out the big sliding door that leads to our balcony off the master bedroom (okay, we only have 2 bedrooms in the house and they're both the same size but we've designated one as the master bedroom) when I noticed the reflection of a lizard.
"Hmm, is that lizard inside?" I wondered. Then I noticed that it was sitting on a towel so it was definitely inside. It was just a common fence lizard but I was a little surprised to be joined in my window gazing by a reptile. I caught the lizard, showed it to Kristi and Anwyn, then let it go outside (it jumped off my arm and scurried away once it was outside).
That's one thing I really like about Florida - all the lizards. I like having some find their way inside because it's fun to catch and hold them. I also like when we get frogs inside as well. I know Kristi isn't terribly thrilled with having either, in part because she wonders what else could get in, but I think they're fun.

Raptor Attack!
This morning I was standing at my bus stop waiting for the bus that would take me to campus. Now that it is spring here in Florida there are a lot more squirrels running around. There were at least 6 within a 30 foot radius of me all on the ground eating acorns. I watched them for a couple minutes; they scurried and ate. Then there was the screeching of a raptor - a hawk or a falcon. All the squirrels were up in trees within one second. I was amazed at how quickly they ran for cover. I never saw the bird but we (the squirrels and I) all heard it. They just knew that that sound meant danger. I've never seen squirrels move so quickly in my life. They were all still hiding in the trees when the bus came a couple minutes later.
The Woman on the Bus
Yesterday I was riding the bus to campus and sat across from a woman with obsessive-compulsive disorder. At least, I believe she had the disorder. For at least 10 minutes she combed her hair in one spot on the back of her head. Over and over and over she combed. Occasionally she would switch hands but she kept combing for about 10 minutes. Then she stopped. It was so interesting to see these compulsions in real life. I've seen them in videos and read about them but hadn't yet seen them in real life. It's possible that she was just combing her hair or that she had a tic disorder that manifested itself through combing over and over but it sure looked like OCD. I really felt sorry for her. Sorry isn't quite the right word but OCD is not easy to deal with. She didn't even look like she really was paying attention to what she was doing - her movements were so robotic. Anyway, that was one interesting experience yesterday.

Amazing Anwyn
Our daughter Anwyn is 3 years old. She turned 3 about a month and a half ago and has been a lot of fun. Today she did a couple funny things. I went home teaching and brought Anwyn along so Kristi could try to get some rest. Anwyn likes collecting leaves (she just likes to hold them or pick them when she is outside - she doesn't really keep them) and picked up a nice big oak leaf from the ground. We left it outside when we went home teaching. When we were leaving and the door front door was opened, Anwyn tried to race out ahead of my companion to pick up the leaf. She wasn't fast enough and he unknowingly stepped on it before she reached it. It was fine though. I just thought it was funny to see her so anxious to pick up the leaf - she was sure working hard to get to it.
Tonight Anwyn stated, "I have no back molars!" I was surprised she even knew the word. Kristi said the doctor said that at her recent check-up.
Anwyn is learning how to read (sort-of). She knows the words cat, mom, dad, Anwyn, and Lily. There are probably other words she knows. We'll probably start earnestly teaching her to read in a few months, or whenever she seems ready.
Anwyn is a good big sister to Lily (or at least tries to be) and really loves her. She can get Lily to laugh easier than either Kristi or I can. Lily really likes her big sister Anwyn.
Anwyn always amazes me at how much she knows and how quickly she learns. Kristi and I were trying to remember when she started talking but only could come up with knowing that she was speaking 6 different words when she was 10.5 months old. At 12-13 months she recognized probably 100s of words and knew things like where different body parts were (hair, nose, mouth, hands, feet, toes, chest, stomach, and probably a few others. She quickly learned where her brain was too). :-) She also loves to sing and has been singing songs for a long time (20 months at the oldest). We actually have her on video at 12-13 months of age saying e-i-e-i-o at the correct time when we sang Old MacDonald. Anyway, Anwyn is a fun little girl, who wants to grow up and be a mother (according to her).
