Swim lessons

All three kids did a session of swim lessons through the Durham Parks and Recreation dept. The girls had a blast, while Zach unfortunately not so much. He cried for a lot of the time, but by the end he settled down and had fun with his good buddy Spencer. We were happy to have lessons at the same time our friends the Barrotts--that made the waiting times much more interesting.

Anwyn and Elise, happy to be in the same swim class.

Lily, swimming the length of the pool.

A last visit to Duke Gardens

Duke Gardens was one of our favorite things about living in North Carolina. We took one last trip there in June before we moved away.

Lily took this picture.

This funny squirrel was stealing the bird food.

Visiting the ducks is always a "must-do" for the kids.

End of the School Year

Anwyn finished second grade at Hillandale Elementary on Friday, June 7th. The first tropical storm of the year was passing right over us that day, so it was a really rainy day.
Anwyn rode the school bus morning and afternoon. We all enjoyed our walk down our street to the bus stop.
Anwyn's best friend at school was Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn lives on the same street that we do, so the girls had a great time on the bus and at school this year, plus many hours playing together after school (with Lily and Zach as well).

Anwyn had a great teacher this year, Mrs. Sommers. She was able to participate in AIG classes, and the highlight of the year was the Pirate unit. They wrote pirate stories, created and completed pirate math problems, dressed up like pirates, and for a final project Anwyn created her own pirate ship. It turned out pretty neat.
My favorite part was her hand-drawn pirates saying things like "My best friend is walking the plank!"
Since the last day of school was so rainy, we weren't able to go swimming like we had planned. We did, however, enjoy an excursion to Locopops. Locopops are gourmet popsicles, and they are a local Durham favorite. My camera wasn't working so I missed the photo-op, but we all thoroughly enjoyed the delicious treat!
