BYU Vocal Point on YouTube

For those of you who have never had the pleasure of watching a BYU Vocal Point concert, a user on YouTube uploaded most of their recent concert. I fell in love with Vocal Point's music my freshman year at BYU. I went to every concert that I could (I think I saw at least 4 that year). After mey mission I tried to go to at least one of their concerts every year. They are one thing Kristi and I really miss about BYU. Here is one funny song from their latest concert (I'd recommend watching the others as well).

Gross Moment of the Week

Today I went into the bathroom at church to change Lily's diaper. After I changed her diaper I put her down and grabbed the wipes container to put it back in the diaper bag. As I turned around to put it in the bag I saw Lily headed over to the urinal. She got there and stuck her hand in the water before I got to her. Eww. Needless to say, she received a good hand-washing with a double portion of soap. Ahh, the joys of parenting. We're counting down the days until Lily goes into nursery - only 3 more weeks! We're ending up in the halls during Sacrament Meeting now with her. She quite a rambunctious child when she wants to be. :) Anwyn is continuing to grow up and get bigger.

Other than the urinal experience and the melted measuring cup on the stove (which filled our kitchen/dining room/living room with smoke and burnt plastic smell), our week was fairly uneventful. We received a lot of rain last night; it was a lovely thunderstorm with lightning striking nearby. I often forget how much and hard it can rain here in Florida. I love the rain and the gray, cloudy skies!

Strawberry Days

It's strawberry season in Florida!

We picked 18lbs in about 30 mins, and we're making freezer jam tomorrow. Yummy!

Family Fun at Homosassa

This past week was spring break. Unfortunately, it appears that third-year graduate students do not qualify for spring break. :( We did, however, decide to have one family fun day. Saturday we loaded up the car and drove to Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. It is basically a wildlife preserve, dedicated to Florida native creatures.

Here are just a few of the animals we saw.
A Great Horned Owl
A snake taking a drink.
A Gopher TortiseA bald eagleA baby alligator
A couple river otters
A bobcat
A whooping crane (in 2007 there were only 340 wild whooping cranes and 145 living in captivity)
Flamingos
And a non-native creature - Lu the hippopotamous. He's 49 years old and was an animal actor back in a number of old TV shows and movies.
A moray eel - also non-native. Some have been introduced into the wild in Florida when people dump their pets out into the ocean. These eels, not being native, are not good for the local ocean environment.
A manatee eating a salad. The park had a nice underwater viewing area.
Anwyn's favorite part of the day was "going on the boat ride." We got to ride a large pontoon boat to enter the park, and took a tram ride back at the end of our excursion. We got to see a lot of animals but missed seeing the black bears (they were sleeping, hidden behind a tree) and the panther (it was hiding in its building).

Anwyn's favorite animals are "all of the animals". Here is what she had to say about the day: ajhdhvhghggcvghvgvghvfbgvfhgfhAnduyedydy

Lily was excited to see all of the animals and birds, and called everything "ba" or "da".

Don't we make a cute family of manatees?

A visit to the horse farm

Yesterday the girls in our family had an outing to a horse farm. (Specifically, the Retirement Home for Horses.)
Anwyn had a fun time feeding the horses. She was excited her friends Abbie and Hunter were there too!

Lily was there also, but she was in the backpack carrier for most of the time, so I don't have any pictures of her.
We had a fun time and enjoyed being outside in the beautiful 80 degree Florida weather!

A rock, some overalls, and the kitchen chairs

Does anyone else get caught throwing away your children's things? Anwyn had a pet rock. I threw it away. She never noticed it was gone until...she found it outside and brought it back inside. Then Lily started eating it. Now it's sitting on the top of our bookshelf. I think I'll attempt another removal soon.

What can I do with a worn out pair of overalls?
Last week I spent a day sorting through little girl clothes. These overalls were well used by Anwyn and Lily. There is a hole in the knee, and one of the snaps is broken. But I hate to throw them away, since they were one of my favorite pants to put on the girls.

Anwyn (almost 11 months old)

Lily (12 months old)
What do you think of our new furniture arrangement?

This sly little girl likes to climb up on the kitchen chairs. Then she likes to rock the chairs. This action strikes fear into the hearts of her parents, since we don't want her to lose her teeth from tipping over a chair (like a certain cute nephew of our ours). So we say "No, Lily" and the chairs end up spending a lot of time on the table.
Here is what Anwyn wanted to say this week:
