On Day 2 we travelled to Amicalola Falls State Park in Georgia. The park was lovely, and we enjoyed hiking the trails in the woods. The falls are impressive. At 729 feet tall, they are the highest cascading falls east of the Mississippi River.
The falls were beautiful to see (and feel the cool mist). Jared and Anwyn ran the 425 steps to the top for a grand view of the valley.
After the park we had some driving to do. We drove a twisty, pretty road through some backcountry of Georgia, and crossed the state line into Tennessee. Tennessee was green and hilly and very pretty. Our only stop in that state was at a gas station for a restroom and slushy break.
Eventually we crossed the state line into Kentucky. At the welcome center rest stop we discovered horses! Well, a large photo of them anyway. What else would you expect for Kentucky?!
We drove some more, for awhile through a heavy rainstorm, until we reached our hotel in Georgetown.
We picked up our dinner (hamburgers for the 4th of July) just before the hotel. After eating, Jared and the children went for a swim in the indoor hotel pool, while I did some cleaning and organizing of the van.
